National Equine Welfare Council (NEWC)

Since its inception in 1977, the National Equine Welfare Council C.I.C. (NEWC) has become a nationally recognised and respected member body that works to protect all equines by providing support, guidance and a communication forum to equine organisations, businesses and charities to help raise equine welfare standards nationwide.

NEWC has evolved to become the united voice for equine welfare by working collaboratively with the industry and supporting its network of over 70 like-minded members from across the UK.

NEWC works to safeguard equine welfare through a membership accreditation scheme, the provision of advice and support for welfare concerns, the promotion of horses, ponies, donkeys and mules for rehoming, and the provision of advice and guidance on equine care and management.

Redwings

Redwings is the UK’s largest horse sanctuary, caring for more than 1,500 rescued horses every day at our sites in England and Scotland. We work closely with farriers to support their client education on issues such as laminitis prevention and weight management.

We welcome enquiries from farriers who are concerned about the welfare of a horse and work collaboratively with the RSPCA and other equine charities to resolve welfare issues in the home wherever possible.

You can find out more about our work and the role of equine welfare organisations through enrolling in our FRC accredited online training that was developed with support and contributions from the BFBA. To find out more, please visit our website.
